WSJ Spills iPad 2 Specs: Expect A Thinner, Lighter, Faster Tablet

Apple's iPad 2 is coming soon
I have to admit, I can't quite explain why I am fascinated by news about Apple products. My only Apple product is a 3rd generation iPod Nano (you know, the slim, square one) which now sits at the bottom of a clothes drawer, neglected. Why have an iPod when, for £10 a month, I can use Spotify on my laptop and smartphone (I don't yet have a personal one but I am leaning towards an Android phone when my contract is up for renewal) and play as much music as I like for a low, fixed price?

The news about iPad 2 is not that exciting, in reality. As the article says 'it's smaller, lighter and faster, plus it has two cameras on it'.

It's just that everyone else is following Apple. For instance, Nokia sells more mobile phones than Apple, but who talks about their Nokia?
My kids are fascinated by Apple products too. So much so, that they saved their pocket money and birthday money up for a while and bought themselves an iPod Touch each before Christmas last year. In New York earlier in January this year on a business trip, I had some free time and walked from my hotel to the Apple store on 5th Avenue. It's the one with the shop below street level with a glass cube on top as the entrance. The shop was heaving on that cold evening with people playing with and buying their products.

Apple just seem to know what people will like. They don't people stuff and they try to fit it around their customers like other competitors. And because of that, I am fascinated by Apple, but not so fascinated by them that I will go out and evrything they sell. A converted Windows laptop with Ubuntu installed and an Android mobile are all just fine for me. I can resist my fascination.
