Anyone who has a monthly contract for their mobile phone is presented with an option to choose a new handset once their contract comes up for renewal, which might be every year, 18 months or two years.
At this time, you are presented with choices of new handsets such as an iPhone, a Blackberry or an Android phone. Chances are that you will have seen and heard all about the iPhone
(and the iPad
and iPod
) and that you will be tempted to order one when you renew your contract.
But, the reality is that Apple's iPhone is not as popular as you might have thought. In fact, its popularity seems to be tailing off. If you look at the chart above, according to ComScore Apple seems to have reached a plateau with the iPhone. More people are choosing to order new smartphones which run using Google's Android
platform.
So, why should you care? The fact is that as more smartphones using the Android platform (or operating system) come into use, people who design useful 'apps' will decide to make them for Android phones
and tablets
too. This means there will be more choice. Android handsets tend to be cheaper than iPhones too.
So, before you go for an iPhone when your contract is due for renewal, just ask about the alternatives including Android handsets.
