It was good reading Steve Martin's blog, 'Heavy Hitter Sales Blog' today and an article called '7 FASCINATING FACTS ABOUT A SALESPERSON'S MIND'.
In the article he writes about traits that many people have and how they are useful for sales people. One, in particular was surprising, namely 'humility'.
Most people in business expect sales people to be brash, loud and poor listeners. Steve cites some statistics which show most top performing sales people have surprising levels of humility.
I can understand that view. You meet many people in sales who are just annoying and pushy to the point of aggression. Therefore, if you are in a small business as a sales person, consider humility as part of your sales strategy. It might just prove more effective than bluff.
