Are you good at Logo Design?
Designing a logo can be quite tricky when you are not a designer. Or,so I thought. I wanted a logo for this blog and was not prepared to spend any money on a designer making me one especially, although I know you can hire them reasonably cheaply. I don't like to spend money if I can help it so I initially looked around for some tools to design a logo online. There are plenty of tools out there to help you do it but the free tools were not very good and did not provide a design I was happy with.
A while ago I came across PicNik which was an online photo editing tool, which was excellent. I found that I could take free images from the web, which had no usage restrictions, and turn them into my own logos and marketing images very easily using some of the tools in PicNik. This is how I made the Digital Business logo design.
Unfortunately, the owners of PicNik, Google, discontinued the product and parts of it were absorbed into Google+.
Pick a Monkey for Logo Design
However, some of the developers from PicNik set up their own alternative called 'PicMonkey'. It's a supertool, not just for editing photos but also for helping you to design a logo or a Facebook cover. Even better it's free. Te create simple logos, I use a mix of images and text.
Initially, I grab free, suitable images from places like Wikimedia. There lots of good icon and images which can be used to create a simple logo. For example, the 'briefcase' in my logo above came from there. Once you have downloaded them onto your computer, you need to open up PicMonkey. The way to design a logo in PicMonkey is use the collage feature. Simply click the 'Create a Collage' button to bring up a menu of styles
of collages. Then, pick a suitably shaped collage for your intended logo design. If there are too many boxes, you can delete them so you only have one box, if that's appropriate.Next, either upload or drag and drop the image or images you downloaded earlier onto the PicMonkey collage and move them around until you are happy with their position. Then, save it onto your computer as a JPEG.
Now, you need to upload the collage you just created back into PicMonkey so you can finish your logo design. Once you have done this, open up the 'Text Editor' which provides you with range sober and fun fonts for your text.
Click the 'Add Text' button and type in the name of your business or witty tag line and save it back to your computer as a JPEG.
And, there you have it. Your own design for a logo!
