I received a message from a contact this week through LinkedIn which had a title called 'Lunch on Me?'. Naturally, I opened the message and read it because a) it was from someone I know and like and b) I thought he was offering to buy me lunch (he's an affable guy and we socialise occasionally).
So, as you can imagine, I was pretty disappointed when his message was nothing to do with lunch or meeting up. His message was promoting a stationery company of which he had recently become a non-executive director and how much money they could save me on pencils and more.
Firstly, I don't buy that much stationery so I am not the target audience for his message. Secondly, his subject line in the message was misleading. Finally, I was a bit fed up with the message as a result. It's not a great way to get your message about.
Relating that to blogging, it's important to know how to write them so your posts are effective and help to keep your existing visitors coming back to your site and for new ones to find.
