The iPad Plunge

It's taken some time, but I have finally made the move into being an iPad owner. It's a topic I had been considering and shying away from taking a decision because I thought that iPads were too pricey and why did I need an iPad anyway when I have a great laptop anyway?

Born Again

Call me a born-again convert but I am hooked on the iPad after about a week of having one. It's an iPad 3 and the deal I took (through the school where my wife works) provided me with a case and an extended warranty.

Aside from that, Ihave been using it for creating documents using Pages; creating spreadsheets using Numbers; rehearsing presentations using Keynote and taking notes using Notes Plus. I used it in one presentation where I had my slides on my laptop and my speaker notes on the iPad. Someone afterwards said it looked "slick".

Mobility

The key aspects to it are it's speed and mobility. There is little if no lag between changing apps. The speed at which it updates email is remarkable. I have been travelling a lot for the last week and, with a 3G dongle, I have been able to access most things I need for work apart from my SEO software which needs to run on Windows.

I am converted. I would not to drop my laptop, but I will be travelling with it less now that I am have an iPad.
