Blogs can be a lucrative business channel to companies
wanting to reach wider audiences. If you have been writing a blog for some time
just for fun, you could be missing out on making profit whilst doing something
you enjoy. The main way to make money with your blog is through advertising.

Understanding the three types of advertising
There are
three types of advertising that you must familiarise yourself with before doing
business through marketing and advertising.
- Pay-per-click is arguably the most recognised form of advertisement. The advertising in this case pays the blogger each time somebody clicks on the advertisement whilst on your blog space.
- Pay-per-impression is when an advertiser pays a blogger a certain amount each time the ad appears on the blog page.
- Lastly, per-per-action is the type whereby the advertiser pays a blogger every time someone clicks on the blog and then performs an action such as making a purchase.
To make your blog space as desirable as possible for
advertisers, make sure that you are constantly producing unique and high
quality blogs in order to attract more traffic. Niche bloggers find that
through being knowledgeable about a certain area of industry, not only does
their content become more unique but they can also market to specific
businesses. Because their blogs are specialist, they will be attracting a
specialist audience, therefore advertisements in that field are more likely to
be clicked and acted upon rather than people randomly browsing.
Become an affiliate promoter
Team up with companies which
want bloggers to promote their products and write content in that field. Then,
supply this content with a contextual link to the company’s website. This is an
easy way to mix up your blog and gain valuable insights into the marketing and
promotions side of blogging.
The same principle applies to a company which
hires copywriters to blog for their clients in order for each party to profit
from extra promotion.
After building up your blog through advertising so that you
gain a large amount of traffic per day, you can then think about asking for
more revenue for your advertising space.
Create your own e-book
Another option is saving up money
which you gained through advertising to create your own e-book. Look at
companies such as Evernote, 99Designs, and E-Junkie to help you on your way to
creating your own e-book.
From all your time blogging, you will have already
gained content to put into the e-book. You can now collate all that content to
work out the direction and focus of your book. Your advertising experience will
also come in handy for when you need to promote your own work to others.
